Atletico Madrid are set to open negotiations with Tottenham for Cristian Romero, but it ‘seems unlikely’ that Spurs will accept any offer below €50m for the defender.
That’s according to Marca, who report that they are planning a revolution at Atletico and the Tottenham defender is a part of their plans.
He is the first choice among the targets and has been given highest priority among the transfer targets being drawn up by the club.
The big problem is his price tag. Tottenham value the Argentine at €70m and those in charge at the Wanda Metropolitano want to bring that down.
Romero’s own desire will be key to that, and he has made it clear that he wants the move to the La Liga side. Tottenham won’t sit down and negotiate until the Europa League final is finished and it ‘seems unlikely’ that they will drop the price below €50m.
Whether Atletico Madrid would be willing to pay that figure remain to be seen, but Romero is on their list and a priority, nonetheless.
They have several targets and are expecting to spend at least €100m to get them, so they potentially want to bring Tottenham down as much as possible when it comes to Romero.
Negotiations are on the way and Romero has made his stance clear, which often leads to a deal being worked out at some point, even if Spurs fans might not want to hear that.
