With Graham Potter now in charge of Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion need to appoint his successor, and the choice has to be the right one.
After all, whoever follows the Englishman at the Amex needs to ensure the good work put in over the past few years doesn’t go to waste, meaning they will have to continue in the same vein as their predecessor.
As things stand, Andrew Croft will take over in the interim while Brighton try to find the right man, with Bodo/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen the current favourite.
The Norwegian manager has been performing wonders at the Eliteserien side of late, making him an in-demand manager, but for him to take the Brighton job, Viaplay expert Kasper Wikestad believes there is ‘one requirement that must be met’.
He said, relayed by Nettavisen: “If he’s going to want it, I think Brighton have to decide that he is the one they want, and that he is the first choice. If he should be relevant, I am very unsure whether he will be interested or not, but it seems like a dream job.
“When you come up to a Brighton level, which is an extremely well-run club that has done a lot of right where other clubs have done a lot wrong. They have a good foundation and have a lot going for them. This means the new manager will be served everything if he wants to introduce and implement his own methods in a systematic way, and he will also have the material available.”
As stated by Wikestad, it all depends on whether Knutsen wants to leave his current project to give the Premier League a go, but we all know that such opportunities might only come once.
Either way, the Viaplay expert believes the Brighton job ‘would suit him very well’.
