Sent to Leicester City on loan with hope he would be able to recapture some of his early form, Cengiz Ünder will come away from King Power Stadium at the end of the season disappointed.
The Turkey international started off fairly strongly as well, but managerial choices, injuries and decent form from other players have left the winger without much game time in a blue shirt.
The 23-year-old has managed just 941 minutes of football this season, with over half of those coming in the Europa League, spread over 19 appearances.
He’s scored two goals and assisted another three during that time, but it’s far from enough to warrant the Premier League club spending upwards of €20m to make the move permanent, which is disappointing to AS Roma.
The Serie A side were hoping this would be an easy way for them to make some money this summer, and Corriere dello Sport believe they will now have to find a new solution for their player.
It’s stated ‘the great leap to the Premier League didn’t help the Turkish forward’, and while Leicester did pay €3m to get the player in the first place, the extra €23m won’t be arriving, as ‘it seems difficult for the club to exercise the option’ when you look at the player’s form.
Thus, Roma have an ‘appointment at the end of the season’ with the player, and ideally Leicester, but that would be a surprise.
