Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s managerial reign at Manchester United came to an end on Sunday, a day after the Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-1 loss against Watford.
Michael Carrick will be in charge of the upcoming fixtures until the Premier League side appoint an interim manager, who is expected to be in place until the end of the season.
Various candidates have already been linked and some among them have been quizzed about the recent claims. This includes Ajax boss Erik ten Hag and Spain coach Luis Enrique, with the latter even laughing at the possibility of leaving La Roja for the Old Trafford club.
Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui has also been included in the candidates list. The former Real Madrid boss was wanted by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, but he turned them down to continue with the La Liga side.
Lopetegui’s immediate focus is on Sevilla’s Champions League tie against VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday. In his pre-match press conference, relayed by Estadio Deportivo, the Spaniard ‘refused to assess’ the claims made in the British press about Manchester United interest.
“No, please, just ask me about the illusion to win at Wolfsburg. The rest, with all due respect, seems absurd to me,” Lopetegui said bluntly.
