Aston Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina will meet with AC Milan in the summer to decide his future at the club.
Reina joined Villa Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window, with Dean Smith’s side seeking out a replacement for the injured Tom Heaton.
He has proven to be an instant hit at Villa Park, with his experience and knowhow proving a welcome addition in their fight against relegation.
It seems his return to England may end up being a short one, though, with Calciomertcato.it reporting that AC Milan want him back in the summer.
They report that Milan are wary over the future of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, with Juventus keen on the Italian goalkeeper and already in contact with Mino Raiola.
Milan have offered Donnarumma a new deal but the prospect of him signing that is ‘remote’, and so they need to plan in case of his departure.
That has ended up affecting Reina, with Milan’s management only sanctioning a ‘dry loan’ for him, something that was heavily questioned given he earns around €3m a year at the club.
Milan’s chiefs, though, preferred to have an alternative with ‘experience and reliance’ available to them and decided to keep Reina around.
As a result, he is set to meet them in the summer to discuss his future with his loan at Aston Villa being a case of ‘see you again in July’ rather than a permanent goodbye.
