The wonderfully named Pedro Porro is one of the promising young footballers at FC Girona who isn’t actually owned by Manchester City already, but Mundo Deportivo are convinced that the interest is there.

A 19 year old right back, Porro can also play on the right side of midfield or even in attack. He’s made six La Liga appearances so far this season and has picked up two assists along the way, against Eibar and Celta Vigo.

The Catalan newspaper says he’s one of the ‘sensations of the season’ so far, and they even suggest a national team call-up, a dream for the player, won’t be so far away if he keeps up the form he’s currently showing.

This obviously brings interest from elsewhere, and Mundo Deportivo asked the youngster: ‘Do you see yourself at City, Real Madrid or Barca?’

Pedro Porro replied: “I don’t pay much attention to any of this. I have my representative who controls everything. I know there were rumours, but I work on my own. All three are from the best teams in the world and every footballer would like to play there, but now I want to continue growing in Girona.”

As well as Pedro Porro’s name sounding brilliant, ‘Porro’ actually means ‘spliff’, and Mundo ask the youngster if the subsequent jokes bother him: “On the contrary, I am very proud of my name and surname. Whoever wants to joke can do it.”

It’s the right attitude to have.
