Until Wednesday, Catalan newspaper Sport have been the only publication constantly trying to push Ivan Rakitic towards Manchester United.
Sport’s last report about the Croatia international indicated Barcelona want to offload him in the ongoing window and have slapped a €50m fee on their player. The Red Devils and Inter Milan were considered as the two possible destinations.
Another Catalan newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, now joins Sport in discussing Rakitic’s links to the Old Trafford club.
Journalist Miguel Rico, writing on the last page of today’s edition of Mundo, explains the 31-year-old is an ‘option’ for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. However, Rakitic is not a priority for Manchester United.
Rico claims the Premier League club prefer Sporting captain Bruno Fernandes, ‘more than Rakitic’.
The Portuguese club are demanding around €70m for their star and he is a more expensive option than the Barca player.
However, Fernandes is seven years younger to Rakitic.
It needs pointing out here that they’re totally different midfielders.
