Brighton & Hove Albion are apparently the latest club to join the race for the Sporting CP fullback Ezequiel Schelotto.

O Jogo reports today that the Seagulls, just like French side Nice, are interested in the 28-year-old who’s set to leave the Portuguese club.

Schelotto has recently been told by manager Jorge Jesus that he’s not part of his plans for the season, and has even been training separately from the rest of the squad.

A couple of days ago, Italian website Tutto Mercato Web linked the player to Brighton, also mentioning Sampdoria, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

In O Jogo’s article, they mention this story only to deny that Sampdoria made any contact for the player. So they’re clearly not just copying the information from Italy.

It means there are now two sources confirming the Seagulls’ interest in the player.

Newspaper A Bola also has some info on the situation today, and claims that despite the many requests for a loan move, Sporting’s intention is to let the player go permanently.

Competition for Brighton is expected to be big, as there are also clubs from Turkey said to be interested.
