As far as the French press have been concerned, Stoke City’s Giannelli Imbula was on his way to Monaco.

Waiting to get rid of some deadweight before confirming the move, the Ligue 1 champions might not want to wait too long before making it official if RMC Sport are to be believed.

The Potters appear keen on offloading their record signing as soon as possible, and with both Monaco and Lyon with cash to burn after some impressive sales this summer, a move back to France could be rejuvenating for the 24-year-old.

Monaco are still in the lead, and having sent Youssef Aït Bennasser on loan to Caen for the season, there’s a bit more room in the principality club’s squad.
