As far as Achraf Lazaar is concerned, it’s all been about Genoa wanting him to replace the likely departing Diego Laxalt.

The Newcastle United left-back was said to have to travelled to Milan over the weekend to see if he could get a transfer back to Serie A, but was forced to return when talks failed to produce any concrete offers.

However, that could be about to change, as a second club are said to be taking an interest in the Moroccan defender in Bologna.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian side have placed themselves alongside Genoa in keeping an eye on Lazaar’s situation as the transfer window reaches the final weeks of its existence, at least until January.

The Newcastle defender hasn’t managed to show Rafa Benitez that he deserves to start at St James’ Park, and an exit has been on the cards for quite some time now.

We’ll have to see if Bologna’s appearance speeds things up, but our bet here is that clubs will wait until the last moment to come forward with an offer as the longer they take, the more desperate the Magpies will get.
