West Ham United are facing a battle to sign David Hancko from Feyenoord this summer as Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr are determined to get him.
That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by Soccer News, who report that the Al-Nassr are showing ‘concrete interest’ in the defender and competing with West Ham and Chelsea for his signature.
They explain that Al-Nassr’s interest is nothing new and they made it clear some time ago that they would like to sign Hancko this summer.
Fernando Hierro, Al-Nassr’s technical director, wants to do everything he can to get the defender to Saudi Arabia. Head coach Stefano Pioli is also ‘very charmed’ by the defender.
Feyenoord are certainly welcoming the interest, with it seen as a ‘gift from heaven’ that would allow them to create a large budget for future transfers.
They certainly don’t believe they’ll get a similar amount from West Ham, Chelsea or any other European sides. They are generally reluctant to pay a top price for players over the age of 25.
Hancko may be tempted too as the move would be ‘lucrative’ for him, and he will ‘never have to worry about anything financially again’. In other words, it’s a financial dream move for him and Feyenoord at this moment in time.
Whether that’s enough to convince him remains to be seen but it’s bad news for West Ham, and indeed Chelsea, who may be simply unable to compete on a financial level.
