Davinson Sanchez has failed to show up at Ajax’s hotel this afternoon ahead of the club’s Europa League playoff against Norwegian side Rosenborg.
Ajax’s squad were set to be meet at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam at 2pm local time, and Sanchez failed to show. The Rosenborg match had already been presented as a possible goodbye ahead of a Tottenham transfer, and now it doesn’t look like he’ll play.
De Telegraaf say the failure to show up ‘seems to be related to the refusal of Ajax to accept Tottenham’s €40m offer’, after the player agreed a five year deal to join Spurs.
That’s their assumption, and there’s no confirmation the no-show is Tottenham related.
Ajax seem to have increased their asking price over the past couple of days, originally wanting just over €40m and then turning that demand to €50m as part of a negotiating tactic.
Tottenham, unsurprisingly, haven’t yet capitulated.
Sport Witness explained on Thursday morning how Ajax’s negotiating tactics seem somewhat transparent, trying to put pressure on Tottenham to increase their offer quickly.
There’s every chance Sanchez is frustrated by the tactics, feeling it’s his career being gambled with to provide a transfer talks training course for Marc Overmars and others.
