Samu Saiz’s performances for SD Huesca last season impressed the Spanish media covering football outside the top flight, and also scouts attending games.
Leeds United were one of the clubs to come away with good reports, and that eventually led to the player signing.
For Leeds, shopping in Spain’s second tier is advantageous on several levels. Spain’s biggest clubs don’t often look to recruit from there, and Leeds can compete financially with the lower clubs of La Liga, both in terms of transfer fee and wages.
That was the case with Saiz, Leeds came forward with more than others were prepared to pay and the carrot of perhaps playing in the Premier League after a Championship season was also helpful.
Leeds United are now back looking at Spain’s second tier, and their interest is reportedly focused on Emi Buendia.
First reported a couple of weeks ago or so, Leeds United’s interest appears to have inspired the Getafe owned player, currently on loan at Cultural.
Again, Buendia has been chosen in Marca’s Team of the Week, that’s the second time in two weeks and Emi keeps on keeping on.
An issue for Leeds United with the attacking midfielder, who can also play a more attacking role, is that Getafe aren’t a second tier side, and could put up a stronger fight to keep the youngster.
