Despite spending three years at Arsenal following a £13.6m transfer from Marseille, Samir Nasri isn’t all that fondly remembered in North London, mostly due to his comments after leaving the club for Manchester City.
Never winning a trophy during his time at the Emirates, the attacking midfielder found his silverware joy at the Etihad instead, picking up a couple of leagues and a League Cup in his first three seasons there.
Last month, Onze Mondial interviewed the former Arsenal forward about everything and anything, including his time under Arsene Wenger.
Some parts of the interview never made the final cut, and these are slowly being released by the French magazine over the coming week, and Monday’s lot include some bits about Arsenal.
Admitting he was still in touch with Arsene Wenger, Nasri was also quizzed on the Gunners ‘struggling to win titles’, and why that was the case.
He said: “I don’t know. I don’t know why. You also have to understand that while I was at Arsenal, we weren’t fighting on a level playing field with Chelsea or Manchester United. Arsenal chose to move to the Emirates, so there was the loan for the stadium.
“The club’s bosses have always wanted to have a healthy finances. They’ve never wanted to go in debt. Therefore, they weren’t recruiting like the others. Since I left, they’ve won two FA Cups. They’re trophies, and all trophies are good.”
The player also revealed that his favourite goals for Arsenal were his two individual efforts against Fulham back in December 2010.
