Now it’s safer to say that João Carvalho’s transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers is totally off, if it was ever on in the first place.

The player’s change of status in the Benfica squad had already been a sign that he is going nowhere, especially after reports said it was manager Rui Vitória who convinced him to stay in Portugal.

But as the Eagles’ midfielder Filip Krovinovic picked up a bad knee injury this weekend, Carvalho will now be pretty important in the club’s race for the league title.

As reported by newspaper O Jogo today, Carvalho is the first name to replace the Serbian midfielder, and will finally have a chance to start a sequence of games.

O Jogo writes that ‘a sale to Wolverhampton Wanderers was even considered’ a few months ago, making it clear that the move to Wolves was a real possibility, but now collapsed.

They’re also referring to the potential transfer as a permanent one, a slight change.

Now let’s see if the interest will go on in the summer, or maybe Carvalho will just become too expensive after a good run in the final stages of the season.
