Inter Milan icon Francesco Toldo has revealed he once turned down the chance to join to Liverpool to stay with the Serie A side.
Toldo spent nine years at Inter between 2001 and 2010 after arriving in a £23.85m deal from Fiorentina, a sum that means he remains one of the most expensive goalkeepers of all time.
He went on to make 233 appearances for the club, becoming a staple at the San Siro during his first four years at the club before playing a substitute role from 2005 onwards.
His time there was undoubtedly a success, though, as he won the Serie A title four years in a row between. 2005 and 2010.
He was also a part of the side that won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa three times and secured their famous Champions League success in 2009.
It seems, though, that his career could have been very different, with him revealing he turned down both Liverpool and Real Madrid to stay in Italy.
“I wanted to stay at Inter, so I declined many proposals,” he told Antenna Three, relayed by FC Inter 1908.
“Winning in this club is different; it is the satisfaction of arriving at the port after going through a storm.
“For the sake of Inter, I said no to Benfica, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid. I retired earlier, but proud of my choice.”
