Real Madrid plan to strengthen the defence next summer and Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilón has emerged as one of the options for the Spanish giants.

That’s according to ABC, who state the La Liga side want to bring in a new centre-back and two fullbacks after this season.

Carlo Ancelotti currently has Ferland Mendy and Marcelo as the two recognised left-backs at his disposal.

The 33-year-old Brazilian has less than six months left on his contract and his exit will force Real Madrid to either bring in replacement or rely upon Miguel Gutiérrez, who has made three league starts this season.

Despite having Miguel Gutiérrez, the report says Real Madrid have the Spain international and RB Leipzig’s Angeliño ‘on the list of possibilities’.

Tottenham took Reguilón from Real Madrid in 2020. As a part of the agreement between the two clubs, ABC explain the Spanish capital club retain an option to buy back the defender for €40m before June 2022.

It’s claimed the 25-year-old is ‘the safest bet’ for Ancelotti’s side since ‘he is a man of the house’. Therefore, Reguilón can quickly adapt at the club and also handle the pressure of playing for them.

If Real Madrid decide the shift the focus on the former Manchester City man, ABC say his transfer would cost them around €30m.

Apart from these two left-backs, Valencia’s José Gayà is also an option for Los Blancos.
