Last month, we covered claims from Spain that Manchester United have made contact to sign Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo in the summer window.

The defender’s deal lasts until 2026, but his future at the Camp Nou remains uncertain. That’s according to Sport, who say he hasn’t accepted the new deal offered by the La Liga side a few months ago.

Araújo’s priority is to continue at Barca, while he also wants to feel valued as most of his teammates are currently earning more than him.

Barcelona believe Manchester United are ‘putting on a lot of pressure in the last few hours’ to convince the Uruguay international with a deal, which will see him double his current salary.

Erik ten Hag’s side will ‘go all out’ to sign the centre-back this summer if he refuses to extend his contract. The Red Devils are convinced it’s a ‘safe investment’ to bolster their back line with the 25-year-old.

Two years ago, Manchester United were left disappointed in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong. They want to avoid repeating it with Araújo, which is why they will first try to get the player’s approval before approaching Barca.

Araújo has to make a decision on his future. If he were to not sign a new deal, the report says Barca may be ‘forced to negotiate’ his sale this summer.

It’s worth noting the Catalan media have regularly dragged Manchester United into the mix when discussing Araújo’s future.
