After finishing without a trophy in his first season at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola guided the Etihad club to two title success in the past two seasons.
In addition to this, the former Barcelona manager helped City win the EFL Cup twice and FA Cup once in the last two campaigns.
However, things haven’t gone to plan for Guardiola and the English champions in the league this term. Even though City are second in the table, they have almost zero chance of retaining their title.
Speaking to Sport, Bernardo Silva admitted City are unhappy with how they’ve performed in the league this season.
Manchester City face Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League this week and Bernardo was asked about the importance of the European competition this season.
“Of course. It is the only thing we haven’t won [Champions League] since Pep has arrived and we are very excited,” he said.
“In the last two seasons, we have not done very well, but when you are used to winning so many titles, you are always expected to take another step. And ours is the Champions League. We know the pressure and expectations.
“We know that we play for a lot in Madrid because the Premier League has already left, but we are coping with it well.
“In fact, many people in Spain wonder what happened to City this season, especially in the Premier League. We are sad about it. Above all, this competition is not easy at all and we have just won it two years in a row, and we don’t play alone either.
“Here is Liverpool and their season is being impressive. We know we should have done much better in the Premier League, but this doesn’t end here.”
The first leg of the Champions League clash between City and Real Madrid will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday. Bernardo admitted he always wanted to play at the iconic stadium from his childhood days.
“When you are a child you dream of these days, playing at the Bernabéu or at the Camp Nou, stadiums of this type,” he added.
“We face a team that has won everything, but the past does not matter, what is important will be the 90 minutes of each game.
“We are a young dressing room, but it doesn’t intimidate us. On the contrary, this pressure for me is a good thing. It means that you are where you have to be.”
