Wednesday’s edition of O Jogo has a lengthy interview with Ruben Neves.

The Portuguese newspaper largely wanted to talk about the player’s time at Porto and his thoughts regarding the national team. On top of that he was also asked about Champions League football, with the insinuation of potentially moving to play in the competition.

As he usually is, Neves was very respectful of his current club and sounds genuine happy at Wolves, believing there’s a chance he can achieve his aims with the Premier League club.

“I have no hurry. We are building a nice design here. We started from below. We have grown every year.

“The goal is to continue to grow. We want to take the club as far as possible and see what the future holds. Of course, the Champions League is not for everyone, but let’s go step by step to get as far as possible.”

At the age of 17, Neves told the Portuguese media he wanted to be one of the best midfielders in the world, quizzed on that aim he said: “Any player likes to be the best. But for that there is a lot of work ahead. Honestly, I don’t have an exact dream set in my head. I am very focused on the present, in my work, because I know that if it goes on like this, good things will come. But any player likes to feel useful and know that people like his game. I will do my best to go as far as possible on an individual level as well. Anyone wants to be among the best in the world. It’s my goal, but all players will have that goal.”

Then came the insinuations from O Jogo that the player must be missing Portugal. It was all innocent questioning, with the country being proud and the media expecting players must miss home.

Fortunately for Wolves, Neves is very happy where he is: “I have no reason to complain. I like to be here, I’m happy, the family is happy. That is all you can ask for. When our families accompany us and are happy, it takes a burden off us. Of course to live, nothing is better than our Portugal, but I feel very good in England.”

O Jogo further pressed on a potential return to Porto, and Neves replied: “In football things change very fast, but I have it set in my head to return to Porto and win those titles that I spoke about.”

It’s unlikely Neves is going back to Portugal at any point in the near future, and it’s nothing for Wolves to worry about.

The player sounds genuinely content and when given the opportunity to hint about a quick exit he never takes it.
