Once Sporting CP announced to the CMVM that Manchester United had informed them of their willingness to pay Rúben Amorim’s €10m release clause, it was only a matter of time before the deal was concluded and the manager changed countries and clubs.
That hasn’t been confirmed yet, and Amorim remains in Lisbon, but it’s getting closer and the manager himself has made it clear the switch is happening.
Reports in Portugal earlier this week stated Manchester United wanted Amorim in charge at Old Trafford for the match against Chelsea on Sunday.
Record had been pushing that line, and had reported he could fly to England today, but that no longer looks the case.
Amorim’s clause has a 30-day notice period attached, and there’s also been the issue of compensation for taking his background team to Manchester United.
The gist was that an extra €5m, so taking the total to €15m, can solve both issues.
Friday’s edition of Record has ‘Amorim leaves for €15m’ splashed across the front page. Inside it says the agreement is for a little below that figure, and includes the following staff: ‘Assistants Carlos Fernandes, Adélio Cândido and Emanuel Ferro; goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital; and sports scientist Paulo Barreira.’
However, it’s also stated Amorim will remain in charge for the matches against Estrela Amadora, today; Manchester City on the 5th; and SC Braga, on the 10th.
Whether that changes again remains to be seen.
