With Leicester City still fighting off Chelsea’s attempts to sign Wesley Fofana, there remains hope the player can stay at least for the coming season.
That will ultimately depend on how much the London team are prepared to pay and how badly the defender wants to leave.
Still, Leicester, like most organised teams, are looking on the transfer market for suitable replacements should they decide to let Fofana go, which is where Merih Demiral comes into play.
This is according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who claim Brendan Rodgers has the Turkish defender ‘in mind’ as the ‘first name’ to replace for Fofana.
That being said, Atalanta, where he plays, aren’t exactly in a position to lose a centre-back, especially one of the Turkey international’s stature, as he is ‘considered a very important pawn by Gian Piero Gasperini’.
Basically, ‘only in the face of a great offer’ that can guarantee the club a profit would the Serie A side allow him to leave.
If Leicester, who would make a lot of money from Fofana’s sale, cannot guarantee that (they should be able to), they will ‘have to look elsewhere’.
For those who might have missed it, Atalanta bought Demiral from Juventus for £18m this summer following a successful loan there.
