Former Arsenal captain and former Manchester United player Robin van Persie is in talks with both Stoke City and West Ham United about a summer transfer, according to claims from Spain.
Spanish newspaper Sport say Van Persie has been offered to Barcelona again, presumably in a role of back-up striker. Having been main man at Arsenal and a major player for most of his period with Manchester United, Van Persie was ready for a back-up role at Barca, according to the claims.
However, Barcelona haven’t taken up the offer. Fenerbahce wanted €10m, but it’s Van Persie wages that are the real issue. The Dutch striker was on big wages at Arsenal, bigger at Manchester United and he also got a good deal in Turkey, Sport say he’s looking for around €100k per week net.
That figure maybe wouldn’t completely put off West Ham, who have been looking for a star striker for next season. Van Persie is 32 years of age, so it depends how West Ham, and Stoke of course, would view that.
Fenerbahce insist the footballer isn’t for sale, but conflicting claims come from Turkey almost on a weekly basis.
