AEK Athens are still in the race to sign Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott, according to claims in Italy. The former Manchester City defender is expected to leave the Championship side before the deadline, and has also been linked with a move to Pescara in recent days.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed AEK Athens haven’t given up on their pursuit of Lescott, and have offered the central defender a two-year contract despite the attention from Pescara.
The Serie A side have only offered Lescott a one-year contract with the option of another year, and the decision is now with the player. However, there are claims Lescott would prefer a move to Italy, and is likely to turn down the AEK Athens proposal.
Yesterday Gazzetta dello Sport revealed Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has been approached by the Pescara coach Massimo Oddo with regards to Lescott.
It was claimed the two Italians have been speaking in recent days with regards to the conditions to Pescara signing Lescott. Oddo is keen to add some experience to his defence after they gained promotion to Serie A last season.
