Even though Sávio was never a Manchester City player, it’s impossible to deny the big connection there is between him and the club.
The winger was purchased by the City Group back in 2022, when he signed for Troyes, and is now having a very good season at Girona.
His current form is the reason why he’s been linked to Manchester City recently, and in an interview with Premier League Brasil, the player opened up about that possibility.
“I have the objective of playing for City, yes, I think that when I was signed my objective was always to get to City and I’m working towards that,” Savinho told website Premier League Brasil.
“But I have to keep my focus on Girona and do things well to get there. If one day I get to City, you can be sure that I’ve done things well at Girona, as I’m doing now. I want to keep working here to one day get to City, which is my point of reference.”
“There’s always someone to look at us, to congratulate us, to accompany us here. There’s always someone from City, the physiotherapist, the fitness coach and not just to look at me, because Girona is part of the City Group. Then there’s also Yan Couto, who is part of the group and has already been training at Manchester City.”
The player, however, insisted he’s never spoken to Pep Guardiola.
“We’ve never had any contact, I’ve only seen him up close. He signed Kayky, who was from Fluminense, Gabriel Jesus, so he seems to get on well with Brazilians. It’s just a matter of letting things happen naturally so that, God willing, one day he can train me.”
Savinho’s season with Girona has generated multiple rumours about his future. And every time the Spanish media claims Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in him, they point out that the City Group may send him to Manchester City instead.
The winger has five goals and four assists in 17 appearances this season, and is one of the reasons the Catalan side are in a fight for the La Liga title.
