Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte had a word today with the Italian media, as he was featured in Italia1’s show Le Iene.
The coach talked a little about his arrival at the London side and the challenge he has already, as he doesn’t seem very confident that Spurs’ squad is good enough to fight for the Premier League title.
With Conte winning national trophies with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan, he was quizzed if he’ll try to do the same at Tottenham, and his answer was very clear.
“Getting into the top four will already be a challenge,” Antonio Conte told Le Iene (via Sports Mediaset).
There’s been a big controversy in Italy regarding the payment made by Inter Milan once Conte decided to leave the club following their league title last season.
The manager reportedly waited until he got the money and only then took a new job at Tottenham, where he is reportedly paid €17.5m/year.
Now quizzed about the whole situation and his new salary, he claims he deserved it: “Yes, but that’s not the case, you do your job and it is right that you do it well. I do it at the top and it is right that they pay me.”
Signing a contract until 2023, Conte has already had two matches in charge of Tottenham so far.
Those were a draw against Everton in the Premier League and a win over Vitesse for the Conference League.
Following the international break, Spurs then receive Leeds on November 21.
