Sven Botman spent much of the January transfer window being linked with a move to Newcastle United.

The Lille defender was a clear target for the Magpies, but his club weren’t keen on a sale and pushed the asking price too far for Eddie Howe’s side. On deadline day of the winter market, Botman spoke to the Dutch media and made it clear he hadn’t been totally against a move to Newcastle.

Since then, the Italian media have been pushing a move to AC Milan, and they’ve also presented Tottenham Hotspur as competition. There’s a lot of confidence in Italy that Botman will choose the Rossoneri over a move to Antonio Conte’s side, or elsewhere in the Premier league.

MilanLive cover that on Tuesday, and say offers from Tottenham and Newcastle have been ‘returned to sender’.

AC Milan are said to have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ for the Dutchman, and that will see him earn more than €3m a year, a figure likely to be after tax.

Despite those claims, it will be interesting to see if the Italian confidence remains, should Tottenham seriously come forward for the player.
