Harry Winks could return to Tottenham in the January as his disastrous loan move to Sampdoria continues.
That’s according to Club Doria 46, relaying information from La Repubblica, who say he is still suffering from an ankle problem, which ‘continues to plague him’.
They explain that he arrived as the big hit of the summer transfer window, but he is yet to play a single minute for the Italian club and has barely trained with his new teammates.
Head of scouting Mattia Baldini and vice-president Antonio Romei ‘put a lot of effort’ into bringing him to the club but effort now seems to have gone to waste.
Winks does not want to undergo a third operation to try and fix the issue, having already gone under the knife in May 2018 and also had an operation on his groin in March 2019.
He is currently undergoing stem cell treatment but if he doesn’t improve, Sampdoria could send him back to Tottenham early.
That would be a disappointing conclusion to a loan spell that was supposed to get things back on track for Winks after a disappointing few year of operations and ‘living with the pain’ of his injuries.
Sampdoria was supposed to be a rebirth for the Tottenham man, with them determined to make him the ‘jewel in the team’s crown’ but a premature farewell is now looking ‘increasingly concrete’.
