Leicester City and Manchester City both made attempts to sign Atalanta star Robin Gosens in ‘recent months’ and ‘a return cannot be excluded’.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the German international remains on the lists at top clubs around Europe.
They explain that Gosens has ‘acquired an increasingly international dimension’ after his impressive performances at the European Championship with his country.
Atalanta’s owners, the Percassi family, have always held out against the ‘temptations’ that have arrived during the transfer window, with Leicester and Manchester City alongside Barcelona and Juventus all having tried to sign him.
New interest in him has not been ‘excluded’, meaning that those clubs could come calling once again.
They will face competition from Inter Milan, though, who were first recommended the player by Antonio Conte and remain firm fans of him.
Any move will be complicated because Atalanta have already activated a clause to renew Gosens’ contract until 2024 and are also talking about improving his salary.
That is seen as a ‘clear message’ to the likes of Leicester and Manchester City, with it stated that only an offer of more than €30m could make the Percassi family change their minds about a transfer.
Therefore, Pep Guardiola and Brendan Rodgers have been warned that their respective owners will need to dig quite deep if they are to get the man they want for the left side of their defence.
