Emerson Royal is not leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Wednesday’s reports from the Brazilian media.
Outlet Lance writes that despite the interest from Atletico Madrid, the player is staying at Spurs, where he’s considered a ‘fundamental’ piece’ in the squad.
The website managed to have a word with Dr. Fabiano de Abreu, who represents Emerson and claimed Tottenham boss Antonio Conte counts on him for the next season.
“Emerson does not leave Tottenham. In fact, Antonio Conte said that even if it was for 40 million euros, the loan would not come out since he has the player as number one in his position. Royal is happy in the team and his football tends to improve,” he told Lance.
Lance writes that Atletico Madrid indeed sought Royal in the current summer window, but their effort was ‘in vain’, with Tottenham not interested in selling the player.
The Brazilian was signed by Spurs on a €25m move from Barcelona last summer, and in his first season in London, made 41 appearances, being mostly Conte’s number one choice for the right-back position.
Recent reports from Spain had already claimed Tottenham would ‘not make it easy’ for Atletico to get Royal, and now it seems the La Liga side really don’t stand a chance at getting their man.
