As we’ve said before on Sport Witness, one of the surprises of the transfer window so far is that no one has decided to stump up €15m for Montpellier’s Ryad Boudebouz.
The 27-year-old playmaker, despite being linked with the likes of West Ham and Newcastle, has yet to see a real offer from interested sides, but there could be a reason behind that.
Picking up a knee sprain a couple of weeks ago in training, Boudebouz is likely to miss the start of the season, with a mid-August return expected.
Speaking to Canal+ in France, relayed by Orange Sports, he said: “I’m going to see if I have a good offer to leave or not. Things can go quickly in the transfer market. We’ve seen it before.
“We’ll take the time to think and we’ll see. Clubs know that I’m injured. If they take me, it’s with my injury.”
However, if no offer were to arrive from West Ham or other clubs, it wouldn’t be the end of the world for Boudebouz, who explained he isn’t ‘unhappy’ at Montpellier.
The attacking midfielder was given the green light to leave the Ligue 1 side if the right offer arrived for him after picking up 11 goals and 10 assists in 34 appearances last season.
Having lost Dimitri Payet last season, West Ham signing someone like Ryad Boudebouz would go a long way in adding creativity in a squad that struggled to score goals last season in their first campaign at the London Stadium.
That, and a proper striker, but the addition of Javier Hernandez will hopefully help in that department.
