Originally planned to play against Tottenham on Thursday night, Stade Rennais travelled to London ahead of the fixture, only to be told at the very last minute that the game would be called off.
This is because 13 people have tested positive within the Spurs playing squad and staff, leaving very little choice but to cancel the fixture for sanitary reasons.
It’s caused a problem, however, since Tottenham already have a very packed schedule, and UEFA are said to be doing their best to find a new date.
However, Rennes, down their end, are rather furious with the whole thing, being assured the game would still go ahead and travelling accordingly.
They’ve decided to head back to Brittany since then, set to arrive later on on Thursday, while Tottenham put forward the date of December 15th to try and get the fixture played before the deadline of December 31st.
That’s all well and good, but Ouest-France say that the Ligue 1 side have ‘no intention of accepting that date’, mostly because, with such a big cluster, ‘nothing suggests the Covid-19 situation would be improved from Spurs’ side by that point’.
This is going to be tricky, it seems.
