René Hake has revealed he received several offers while he was at Manchester United, despite Erik ten Hag’s sacking not yet being made public.

Soccer News cover comments from the former Manchester United assistant manager today as he looks to get back into the game following his departure from Old Trafford.

The 52-year-old joined Manchester United in the summer from Go Ahead Eagles as part of a backroom shuffle by Ten Hag that saw him surrounding himself with Dutchmen behind the scenes.

Hake was one of several appointments, alongside the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, taking up a role as assistant manager next to Ten Hag in the dugout.

His time in England proved to be a short one, though, with Manchester United sacking him alongside Ten Hag in November as results failed to improve and they decided to go in a different direction.

That saw those in charge go for a clean slate, with new manager Ruben Amorim electing to hire his own backroom staff rather than working with those already in place.

The likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy have already found new work and Hake admits he had offers too, while he isn’t ruling out another relationship with Ten Hag.

“I’ve already noticed how it works. Erik’s dismissal was barely known when I received calls from three or four clubs the same day to ask what was going on with me,” he said.

“I could have immediately gone for an interview for a job as head coach. I personally have no interest in status or boasting, but that is how the football world works.

“I still see myself as a head coach. Had not planned to leave Go Ahead in that role last summer.” Staying abroad appeals to me, but it also depends on the options.

“Now for the first time. And it was a great experience,” he added on working with Ten Hag.

“Do we have a deal that he will ask me again? I understand very well that he cannot guarantee me that I can go everywhere with 100 percent certainty. A club has to want that too, right.”
