Arsenal favourite Emmanuel Petit has hailed current manager Mikel Arteta and the “remarkable” and “amazing” job that he’s doing at the club.

The French midfielder has been speaking to AS about the current Arsenal team and the impressive work that Arteta has been doing at the Emirates.

Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Liverpool after wining 17 of their 25 games in the league so far.

They find themselves firmly in the title hunt once again after challenging for the title last season, when they eventually finished five points behind winners Manchester City.

That challenge ultimately fell away at the end of the season as Pep Guardiola’s side hit their stride in the second half of the campaign and set up a relentless pace that the Gunners could not keep up with.

Mikel Arteta and his team appear to be doing things differently this season, pacing themselves for the crucial second half of the season and continuing to pick up impressive results, such as the recent win over Liverpool.

Arteta is the man leading the charge and Petit believes he deserves all of the credit possible for the way Arsenal are performing.

“I know that in modern football, especially in big clubs, you don’t have time to put on the pitch what you want to do, the vision you have for your players,” he said.

“I know of all the criticism he received when he first signed for Arsenal, all the problems he had to manage in the dressing room with players like Aubameyang, for example.

“Step by step, you know, this team came back with its DNA on the field, the work that [Arteta] has done is remarkable. I think it’s amazing what he is doing with this squad, because he has an adequate vision on the pitch, a clear identity in the game, but he is very demanding of his players.

“He loves his players, but they have no room to do what they want, they have to follow the rules at all times. The team is the star; “The players are not the stars, the team is the star, and he gives this team a true mentality, a true unity and a great identity on the field.”
