SportBild journalist Christian Falk has revealed Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber is edging closer to leaving the Bundesliga champions. Earlier today we covered reports from Turkey that Manchester City are in a fight with Besiktas to sign the Germany international.
Falk has today posted on Twitter that Badstuber is expected to leave Bayern Munich in this transfer window, and has confirmed Manchester City are one of the clubs in contention to land the 28-year-old.
Abgang von @Badstuber vom @FCBayern rückt näher. Neben @HSV und angeblichen Interesse von @ManCity ist @VfB am Verteidiger dran @SPORTBILD

The central defender has struggled to get games for the German side this season, after a long run of injuries. Falk, who is reliable for Bayern Munich news, has also revealed Hamburg and Stuttgart are two clubs in Germany who are keen to sign the player.
Today we reported Manchester City were to provide stern competition to Besiktas in the race to sign Badstuber.
With Manchester City’s frailties at the back this season Pep Guardiola is hoping to be reunited with his former player from Bayern Munich, and the Premier League side want to take the player on a six-month loan deal.
Manchester City interest is somewhat surprising given Badstuber’s injury record. The club took a gamble with Ilkay Gundogan, who is already out with a long term injury, and another gamble may be considered a gamble too far.
