Either Nottingham Forest or Watford look close to signing Carlos Miguel from Corinthians, the Brazilian media says.
The story comes from UOL, and says that the goalkeeper’s €4m release clause is about to be triggered.
It’s known that two European clubs already suggested they’re about to do so, one from England and one from Italy.
Regarding the English side, it’s claimed Carlos Miguel has been ‘watched from close’ by two clubs, Nottingham Forest and Watford, and it’s ‘likely’ the offer would come from one of them. There’s no information about the Italian bid.
Corinthians would like to keep the goalkeeper at the club by giving him a new contract, but with the release clause being triggered, there’s nothing they can do, while it’s him who decides which offer to take.
Carlos Miguel has just gone through a building process at the Brazilian side and there’s some anger from their fans that he could be leaving them right now.
For over a decade, Corinthians had their legend Cassio as first choice. With him making many mistakes in the past few years, though, there had been some pressure for someone younger to get a chance.
While Carlos Miguel waited for that opportunity, some rumours showed up in April saying West Ham United and Fulham wanted him. We even wrote that was unlikely, with it looking like pressure from his camp to force Corinthians to pick him.
Cássio ended up leaving for Cruzeiro, and Carlos Miguel got the starting spot. Now that it happened and he’s playing regularly, he could soon be leaving.
