Two months ago, Gianluca Di Marzio reported Leicester City were ready to challenge Como for Arthur Melo.
Last month, Tuttosport reported the Foxes were in regular contact to sign the Juventus player in the last window.
Friday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport covers approaches made by Leicester and a few other clubs to secure his services this summer.
It’s claimed Steve Cooper’s side, Como, Fiorentina and Napoli all tried to sign the 28-year-old. The transfer window in Turkey closes later today and he’s also rejected several offers from that country.
The Brazilian hasn’t made an appearance this season and has dropped further down the pecking order at the Turin club.
Juve have included the Brazilian in their Champions League squad, but Corriere say it was just for formality. In other words, Thiago Motta is unlikely to consider him regularly when selecting the squad.
Arthur could regret not entertaining approaches from Leicester and others in the summer window. The newspaper claims he’s waiting for a new opportunity when the window reopens in January.
A move back to Brazil can’t be ruled out. Flamengo, Palmeiras and Corinthians could be willing to cover Arthur’s €5m per year salary, as long as Juve let him leave for free.
Maybe that – a free transfer – is what he’s holding out for.
