It seems Simeon Slavchev’s destination this summer really won’t be Birmingham City.

As covered byO Jogo today, the word from Bulgaria says it’s certain the player will return to his home country.

He’ll be loaned by Sporting to CSKA Sofia, with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The midfielder spent an extended trial period at Birmingham City last month, and even played a couple of preseason friendlies, but as the newspaper says, Harry Redknapp wasn’t convinced enough.

Despite being signed by Sporting in 2015, Slavchev only had the chance to play two official games for the Portuguese club.

That’s one of the reasons he’s keen on an exit.

Birmingham City would have had to build a deal taking into account Slachev’s complicated ownership, which may have put the Championship club off.

Then again, that’s something Birmingham would surely have been aware of from the start, so perhaps Slavchev impressed Redknapp, but not quite enough to justify the hassle of a complicated deal.
