Sadio Mane was at his brilliant best on Saturday as Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0, and if it hadn’t been for the intervention of Hugo Lloris the score could have been higher. Mane’s pace was too much for Tottenham to deal with, and the Spurs back-line could do nothing as the Liverpool player fired his side to an early 2-0 lead.
After that it was pretty much damage limitation for Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men losing the midfield battle, and always aware that a slip could see Mane through on goal again.
Liverpool missed the Senegal international during the Africa Cup of Nations, and it’s no coincidence that their best performance in a long time came with Mane back. The 24 year old has seen the perception of his talents soar in England this season, and that appreciation is spreading around Europe.
Every Monday Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport pick a European Team of the Week, ignoring their own Serie A in the process. It’s no surprise to see that Mane is one of three Premier League players to make the cut this week.
Mane has been picked behind Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and alongside Schalke’s Leon Goretzka, a player who has been loosely linked with Liverpool on occasion.
