RB Leipzig are planning one last effort to keep Dani Olmo at the club after a recent approach from Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who say the Saxons will offer Olmo one more deal with financial improvements before giving up and looking for a transfer in the summer.
We covered a report last week that stated Tottenham had been in contact about a potential move for Olmo this summer, with his agents now considering a Premier League switch in a potential €40m deal.
Sky pick up on this and state that Leipzig have been trying to extend Olmo’s current contract since the first half of the season. A decision will be made at the end of this campaign on that front.
They are yet to reach an agreement, but the clubs sport managing director Max Eberl wants him to continue at the club and extend his deal beyond 2024, when his current contract expires.
They are not giving up on that front and are ‘going all in’, with their information that they will improve their offer one last time from a financial point of view and even stretch their own ‘monetary limits’.
If, though, that is not enough to convince the Spanish midfielder then a free transfer in 2024 has been completely ruled out.
Either he extends and they raise his release clause to €70m or he will be sold this summer, with a €30m fee seen as ‘realistic’ for him.
There is also a chance that the club will offer him a new deal with that €70m release clause and a second exit clause at a lower price for Spanish clubs, further demonstrating their desire to keep him.
Eberl wants clarity before the end of the season and is going all in financially to get it, otherwise Olmo will be put up for sale, with Tottenham likely to be among the contenders if he is.
