Burnley managed Vincent Kompany has been backed to take charge at Tottenham as he is “a world-beater”.
That’s according to pundits Johan Boskamp and Ander van der Meyde, who believe Kompany could be the right candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Spurs.
The Belgian boss has been impressing with Burnley this season since taking charge in the summer as Sean Dyche’s long-term replacement.
After a huge summer overhaul of the squad he has led them to the top of the Championship table playing an exciting brand of attacking football that has earned numerous plaudits and put them 11 points clear of second placed Sheffield United.
That is something which has not gone unnoticed and Kompany has been quickly linked to the vacant manager’s position at Tottenham as a result.
That led to discussion on Veronica Offside about Tottenham’s interest, something which Boskamp and Van der Meyde believe makes sense.
“He is almost 20 points clear in the Championship,” Voetbal Nieuws report him saying.
“At Anderlecht, he also made it to the cup final in two years, but Anderlecht was no longer the club it used to be. He really is a world-beater.”
“Besides, in England it really is a big name,” added Van der Meyde, who believes Kompany’s reputation following his time at Manchester City may have put him in the running.
One man who isn’t impressed by the rumours, though, is presenter Wilfried Genee, who believes the attention is strange.
“Do you get that? He hasn’t shown anything as a coach yet, has he? At Anderlecht he achieved nothing, didn’t he?” he stated on the subject of the Burnley manager.
