Last week, Corriere dello Sport reported Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries wasn’t in favour of joining Aston Villa in the summer window.
It was also stated he’s set to sign a new deal at the San Siro. The right-back currently has less than a year left on his contract.
InterLive.it provides the latest on his contract situation and Aston Villa’s interest in the 28-year-old.
The Italian champions are working to extend Dumfries’ contract. If he were to sign a new deal, it’s not certain that he will still be at Inter beyond this season.
The report claims the Netherlands international could leave either in January or next summer.
Aston Villa are still looking at him as they ‘really like Dumfries’. It’s claimed Unai Emery’s side ‘have been flattering the player’ for a while with a rich salary and a leading role at Villa Park.
Last week, we covered claims from Italy that Inter have set their sights on Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.
InterLive.it state Simone Inzaghi is ‘crazy about’ the 23-year-old midfielder. This could see Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta propose a swap deal to Aston Villa, involving Dumfries and Ramsey.
This is likely to be considered next summer, giving the San Siro club enough time to find a replacement for Dumfries.
Ramsey’s contract lasts until 2027, and the Villans would value him much higher than the Dutchman. It’s not yet clear whether Dumfries would be open to joining Aston Villa, after refusing to join them in the summer.
