Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech needs to be ‘patient and lucky’ if he is to work his way back into their first-team.

That’s according to former Dutch international Wim Kieft, who says the competition for places at the club have made it hard for the summer signing to thrive.

Ziyech arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £36m move from Ajax last summer, having shone with the Dutch giants for several years.

His time at Chelsea has been extremely disappointing so far, though, with a knee injury and hip injury, meaning he has spent large parts of the season on the bench.

When he has started, he has largely impressed, but that hasn’t happened often, with his last start in the Premier League coming in the 1-0 win over Fulham in the middle of January.

He continued on the bench last night as Chelsea took on Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, and Kieft has warned him he should get used to that at the minute.

“He should compete, as they play, with Mount of Kovacic,” he told SBS6, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

“In that place. You are not going to play him out at the moment.

“You have to be patient and lucky. That the moment you start playing again, it starts running again.

“That Werner is having a really hard time. That expensive boy, Havertz… he hasn’t done it yet.

“It’s really hard in England, especially at Chelsea. Because they have such a large selection, they tend to switch quickly. “
