Earlier on Thursday, we covered the news emerging form Belgium that Eupen’s talented winger Henry Onyekuru was missing in action after his club had rejected an offer from Celtic.
Brendan Rodgers is seemingly keen on adding the Nigerian starlet to his squad this January, and RTBF reported the player had failed to report with the club that morning, with staff members unable to track him down.
With an important game against Standard Liège on Thursday evening, a pre-match meeting was scheduled for 2.30pm, which the Celtic target also skipped, according to Walfoot.
The Belgian website explain that a ‘real tussle’ is taking place between the club’s directors and the player, who feels he is being unfairly treated by his club following promises he could leave in January if the right offers came along.
Celtic are said to have offered around €1.5m for the 19-year-old, but reports from Belgium seem to suggest they are unwilling to negotiate anything below €3-4m for their starlet.
However, as of four hours prior to kick-off, Onyekuru remains a part of Eupen’s plans for the game against Standard, with the Belgian side telling SudInfo ‘the team remains unchanged’, meaning the forward is still on the list of 19 players called-up for the game.
