Real Madrid star Casemiro spoke this week to ESPN Brasil. In a long interview about several topics, the 29-year-old talked about his club, the national team, the Ballon d’Or and other subjects.
It turns out that when the Galatico was naming the best players in the world, it was mentioned by journalist Gustavo Hoffman that there’s a debate on who’s been the best defensive midfielder in the past few years: him or Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté.
Obviously, Casemiro was encouraged to say whether he or the Frenchman is better.
Despite acknowledging the Chelsea player’s qualities, Casemiro made it clear that he doesn’t agree with the comparison, insisting the two play in different positions. He also made sure to include other names in that list.
“I’d rather you answer that one (laughs),” Casemiro told ESPN Brasil.
“But I like to remind you that Kanté, despite being an extraordinary player, has been playing for Chelsea in a different position, with more freedom to attack, and the first defensive midfielder is Jorginho. It is also worth remembering that there are other players of the highest level in this role, such as Busquets and Fabinho. But just because I’m mentioned as one of the best, I’m happy and I keep working to evolve more and more.”
Earlier today, Kanté’s name was a topic in an interview which his Chelsea teammate Jorginho gave to the Brazilian media as well. Speaking to Globo Esporte, his midfield partner sent big praise towards the Frenchman, but advised everyone not to bet against him, as he’ll do whatever it takes to win.
