Jesús Vallejo is ‘one step away’ from moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan for the season, report Marca on Thursday afternoon.

The central defender signed for the club from Real Zaragoza in 2015 and isn’t yet in serious contention for a regular place. He’s been on two loans, firstly back to Zaragoza, and then to Eintracht Frankfurt.

A central defender, the 22 year old has a lot of experience with Spain’s national youth sides, and was part of the squad which won the European Championships this summer.

Marca say the transfer could be completed in the ‘next few hours’.

Vallejo had wanted to stay at Real Madrid for the coming season, but since the arrival of Eder Militao from Porto he’s been relegated to fifth choice central defender.

There’s no talk of any buying option, and it’s explained the player’s contract may be renewed before he leaves. It currently runs until June 2021 and Madrid would likely prefer it to be longer so he’s got more than a year left when he returns.
