Reading defender Tiago Ilori is on the front page of Portuguese newspaper Record today. After landing in Lisbon on Sunday, the player is now expected to sign a contract with his former club Sporting.
The outlet claims that the Lions are paying the Royals €2.4m for 60% of the player’s rights. That’s how the clubs found an agreement, since the Lisbon side didn’t want to spend over €2m, and the Championship club wouldn’t accept less than €3.5m.
Ilori has told journalists he’s ‘happy to return home’ during his arrival in Lisbon, with Record claiming that being close to his family had a heavy weight on his decision to make the move.
“Honestly, I can’t say much, nothing has been confirmed,” Ilori told Record. “I’m happy for having landed in Lisbon, because it’s a return home. Today I still can’t say anything but certainly there will be news soon.
“I’m confident. But everything can happen in football. I’m now here, I’ll enjoy a few days with my family and soon we’ll see.”
Although there’s an agreement between Sporting and Reading, the newspaper says that some details such as the payment methods are being sorted before the clubs make the announcement.
