Sporting signed Pedro Mendes for their academy from Moreirense in 2017 and after spending two years with their youth system, he made his first team debut this season, featuring twice in the league and four more times in the Europa League.

The forward has been largely used in Sporting’s U23 side, where he’s scored 15 goals and managed two assists in 20 appearances, and his performances have caught attention from an English club.

According to O Jogo, Reading are interested in the 20-year-old and the Championship side have already submitted an offer for Mendes.

Mark Bowen’s side want to take the attacker on a loan deal until the end of the season and include a purchase option.

It’s claimed the Portuguese side are analysing the offer made by the Royals and will communicate their position to Reading in the next few days.

Sporting are currently negotiating with Moreirense to buy another 30% of the player’s transfer rights, which would take their ownership to 80% of a potential transfer fee from Reading. Therefore, it sounds like when he moved the two Portuguese sides agreed to go 50/50 on a future transfer fee.
