RB Leipzig are on the verge of beating Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool to signing of Serbian talent Andrija Maksimović.
That’s according to Mozzart Sport, who report that while the for the youngster is not over yet, Leipzig have pushed out in front.
According to their information the German side are close to sealing a €13m deal for the 17-year-old Red Star midfielder that will include an ‘easily achievable’ bonus of €2m. That would make him the most expensive player in Red Star’s history.
Leipzig are expected to make an official offer with those sums next week and it has not been ruled out that the transfer will be made official by the end of April.
A transfer has been brewing for some time as Maksimović has attracted a lot of attention from European clubs. Liverpool and Brighton have already been named as suitors with PSG travelled to Belgrade for a meeting with Red Star’s management.
However, it is Leipzig who have moved quickest, with Red Star technical director holding talks with the Bundesliga club during several stays in Germany. He warned them not to repeat their mistake of missing out of Kosta Nedeljković, who ended up at Aston Villa but is now on loan at Leipzig.
Red Star had initially asked for €20m as they knew about the interest of Brighton and Liverpool and their ability to pay such a fee. They were seen as the only ones who could, though, and they’ve negotiated lower with Leipzig as a result.
He now appears set to join them in the summer if the official bids arrives as expected next week to seal the deal and push the Premier League duo aside.
