Relegated after a very poor season in the Premier League, Aston Villa are having a tough time trying to keep their best players to try a regain automatic promotion next year.

Idrissa Gueye, although rejecting a move to Marseille, wants to move somewhere else in England, while Carlos Sanchez and Jordan Veretout are also targets for the Ligue 1 club, and those deals have more chance of going through.

The Colombian defensive midfielder seems surplus to requirements and could go cheaply, but the Frenchman’s situation is a bit more complex.

According to L’Equipe on Tuesday, Veretout seemed reluctant at first to join Marseille, a club whose future is very uncertain right now, but discussions with the current manager seem to have softened his stance a bit.

The French newspaper state Franck Passi has called the former Nantes star a few times over the past weeks to try and convince him to help the club out, which seems to have worked, offering a ray of light for the struggling giants.

Trying to force the blinds shut, however, are the player’s advisors, who are trying to slow things down as they seem to think this might not be the best move for him.

The move would more than likely be temporary, anyways, as Marseille aren’t in the best financial situation right now.
